Traveling Song – © 2015 Jenner Fox As I left her lying there in the bed where I sleep Lying like an empty balloon in the quiet of fleeting dreams There’s a funny thing about movin’ around And always having to leave I know just where I’m going to, not where I’m gonna be Will she meet me there, will I even care when time has numbed us both Sitting in a six-hour flight who knows where your thoughts will go There’s a funny thing about leaving town Surrounded but dead alone There’s plenty of time inside your mind, but no way to let her know You know I like listening to real sad songs I force my ears to admit that there’s something wrong In the private of my elbow room I request an apple juice And convince myself that my home will never change As the lights of New York bring popping to my ears I’ve begun to like my seat belt and my knees upon my chest There’s comfort in the side of a stranger’s face Yes there’s closure in her kiss I cannot taste There is fear for the bonds I cannot break

Francine 04:04
Francine – © 2015 Jenner Fox Why don’t you ask me how I’m doing when we’re alone Why don’t you ask me how I’m doing when we’re alone It’s not the question in specific Just the fact that you could ask it To talk on what is wrong until it’s right We would sing the same songs every night We would sing the same three songs and be alright Yeah the songs would stay the same But the walls on which they hang Would peculiar like the sound of a name Francine I ain’t asking you for much Just your name and when it rains that you look up I could call you Caroline and pretend that you were mine But I’m obscene for you Francine I wanna be seen with you Francine Was the elephant also standing in your room When I lay awake in the bunk bed over you I couldn’t figure what to call him Four letters seemed too solemn For something huge and gray I never learned to do Francine I ain’t asking you for much Just your name and when it rains that you look up I could call you Natalie but that’s too close to home you see Cause I’m obscene for you Francine I wanna be seen with you Francine When we’re walking home and your feet begin to slow In the April cold where my mind in time will go Three blocks from home I swear I heard you blow A whisper that got lost in street light snow Answering Francine I ain’t asking you for much Just your name and when it rains that you look up I could call you Emily but mine you’ll never be Cause I’m obscene for you Francine I wanna be seen with you Francine

Taos, NM 05:16
Taos, NM – © 2015 Jenner Fox The place you fill Dream or memory Fondly Words of mouth The road to Taos From the window When you let go The night spoke Silver eyes in the dark Or just the blue glow Of your cell phone Alone With our shoes soaking wet The place you fill To never look upon The lovely freezing dawn A Dodge Ram a southern man Never again Never Again Not the one we Drove to glory I was sleeping Broken glass in the grass As your blood cached The rain made Our hands shake As if only from the cold The place you fill For you’ve never been Without origin Only driving in the dark From the hospital When I let go On the telephone The call home felt like my ribs Took an elbow From a steam boat Your voice soft and low Flooded all that I had kept Oh how I wept To be here now A swollen eyebrow Just a cut on my hand When the car flipped Was there a moment A pinprick A flash before your eyes Oh how I try to understand The silence How I try to understand The violence Felt so serene The place you fill Now lost in rhyme That I forget To remember Most of the time I can hear The songs we sang To stay awake Were there stars behind the clouds I am not proud I am not proud Just young I guess Too young I guess Just young I guess Still young I guess

The Devil's Southern Soul – © 2015 Jenner Fox The Devil’s Southern soul Needs a friend I’m told He works all day in the sun He fancies himself a man tight in the mouth Blue eyes and bitter on the tongue I think he’d like rivers I think he’d like sand I think he’d like stayin’ up listening to some old bluegrass band I think he’d like me When I’m down and out Bearing songs teeth and eyes filled with doubt He walks on water they say Lives on a dollar a day Two teeth and a fish on the line Never understood the words mine or should Will sell all he owns for a dime Chorus Un-contrary to common belief I’ve got a devil and an angel in me Though equally wise It’s no surprise That they respectfully disagree The angel I breathe And the devil in me Sip tea in the rain, cordially Laughing over friends In puffs of green Falling asleep to the cool of Madrone trees Waiting for the one that they made in their mind Sitting all the while side by side I know they like rivers I know they like sand I know they like singing out pretending they’re some old bluegrass man They’re a lot like me When I’m down and out Bearing songs, teeth, and eyes filled with doubt

Spider Song 03:00
Spider Song – © 2015 Jenner Fox I said to Jane It’s cold outside She said it’s warm enough for the rain my child Well I noticed then That all my friends were spiders I said dear Jane It’s freezing rain There are drops out there Bigger than your brain She shook her head Said I am not a spider But we are, we are I can tell by your legs and your tiny spider head Yeah we are, we are I said to Jane We’d work it out But you’re too busy climbing up the water spout Well I noticed then That all my friends were spiders I still got you You stick with me We’ll spin on through the night Even if we disagree She shook her head Said, I’ll hold on tighter Cause we are, we are I can tell by your legs and your tiny spider head Yeah we are, we are We are, we are Oh we are all spiders We’re little spiders Make webs in corners In our habitats Check out my cephalothorax Fangs and venom Yeah we are spiders

Hattie’s Song – © 2015 Jenner Fox If you were a glove, I’d be the winter If you were lost, I’d point you home If you were a stick, I’d be a splinter If you were a road, I’d travel on If you love, I’d be an arrow If you were a boat, I’d set you free If you were a tree alone and hollow I’d be the ground, let you fall on me Cause I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more Yeah I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more If you were a ring, I’d be a finger If you were a note, I’d write a song If you were the rain, I would get wetter If you were sun, I would get red Cause I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more Yeah I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more When your time is short And your love is strong Well the words always seem to come out wrong They come out wrong And it’s no surprise as I look in your eyes That my mind and my mouth forgot to coincide To be aligned And every hello foreshadows goodbye And the moments between turn to memories in your eyes In your eyes Cause I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more Yeah I think of you All day Then I dream of you some more

American Pipedream – © 2015 Jenner Fox I am the fox I am the hound I am a word I can’t pronounce If I could I suppose it would rhyme but oppose That which I am singing about I wanna be John Prine Some of the time Otherwise life’s pretty dam good But I wanna do something wrong And put it in a song And regret it as I sing Screw all you have Leave town Lets build something up and knock it down Lets fall in love and break our hearts We’ll never know if we don’t start

about

This is my debut album, 10 years of songwriting, 10 songs. A song written when I was 15 (“Hattie’s Song”) and one that poured out the night before going into the studio (“Taos, NM”). It’s the raw thing, what it sounds like when I sit in a room and play the guitar. Thank you Cookie Morenco for believing in and guiding me through the recording process with your quiet wisdom and amazing ear.

The album was recorded live at OTR Studios in the San Francisco Peninsula. All 10 basic tracks (vocals and guitar) were recorded in one 7 hour session and the overdubs were recorded in two follow up sessions.

Jenner Fox Sisters, Oregon

There is something that happens inside a good song. A tootsie roll can take you back to your elementary school playground; the voice of a toothless refrigerator man reminds you to say “I love you.” Jenner Fox tells the stories of people and places with unparalleled compassion and respect. His artful tone, poetry, and fluency on his guitar do something only the brave ones do: let us in. ... more
