Baby Names 03:11
I've got a list of baby names Started it in the 4th grade Some have changed some have remained I've got a list of baby names I've got a room full of succulents I even had a lover once I let him in but he couldn’t stay Called me by my baby name I’m waiting, waiting For something to love I got a job at the coffee shop Double shifts and double shots Mom’s clean and we’re talking again Now is now and then was then And sometimes in the middle of the night I can still see mom sleeping in the TV light I’d turn it off and she’d say my name I can still hear it that way I’m waiting, waiting For something to love

I like to ride my bicycle at night When the streets are dark and cold Down the Tongue Canyon Road And I look in all the windows At the people passing time and getting old In the television glow Dad put us on training wheels In the Church parking lot And I got my first two wheeler and he said, that’s how freedom feels But stay on the sidewalks And we’d ride everyday to school In a pack of five or six And we’d see who could go no handed For the longest I like to ride my bicycle at night When the streets are dark and cold Down the Tongue Canyon Road And I look in all the windows At the people passing time and getting old In the television glow Well I left and loved and moved around Now I’ve got a kid and a truck and we’re coming back to town Where the streets are all the same And I know the trees by name And I used to ride passed Annie’s house Imagine of what I’d do if she came out Fix my hair, glide real slow Maybe she’d be at the window I remember hoping Dad was asleep when I got home Maybe there’d be something left on the stove And in the morning light, he’d ask me where’d I’d been all night I’d stand up straight, talk real low Tell him I’d been on my bicycle I like to ride my bicycle at night When the streets are dark and cold Down the Tongue Canyon Road And I look in all the windows At the people passing time and getting old In the television glow

Alice 05:33
Down at the station last week A man from a University Came to teach all the deputies About Alice Came to teach us all about Alice Back in the days of Columbine We taught schools to duck and hide Kill the lights be quiet there’s a bad guy But now we teach em all Alice The data gave us Alice I grew up here in Sheridan County district one And we fielded nine on our football team but boy we could run And it’s late September and school’s in full swing There’s a chill in the air October's coming I tell my boys down at the station don’t be dumb If you pull over a truck this time a year best assume they’ve got a gun It’s hunting season In Wyoming I remember I remember when we were boys and Dad would take us out Before class and we’d hold guns and laugh and shoot squirrels and dirt And I never once thought that bullets were to hurt other people We’d leave em unlocked in the high school parking lot all day And my heart breaks For Alice My heart breaks for Alice I woke up in a sweat at 2am I dreamed district one had an incident The bells were ringing and the phones blew up And all of the neighbors came running with their guns And I was stuck on a lead driving east on 14 And the mountains just rose and rose and I couldn’t break free And they echoed with the foot falls and the bullets and the screams And all I could do was pray For Alice For Alice

I’m cooking for one again Just a quarter of an onion I’ll make em’ just like I like them I might even burn them I’m cooking for one again I got a house full of pictures of him Got a heart on the mend I’m cooking for one Maybe I’ll have the neighbors in But then again I don’t really like them And they don’t really like my cooking So I’ll cook for one again Make my bed every now and then I got a heart on the mend I’m cooking for one There are days I’d gladly take him back And there are days I don’t remember having But I won’t stop trying And this house is done with lies And these onions that I’m burning Are all mine I’m cooking for one again Just a quarter of an onion I got a heart on the mend I’m cooking for one I’m cooking for one

The locals like the pot holes but the county fixes them em up And all the bumper stickers round here say "Wyoming sucks" It's the damn Californians driving us out Although most of them are from Texas now but who's keeping count And maybe I'll sell but I could never buy back in And who ever thought that'd be the case in Wyoming When there's no place left to go I'll dig a hole Be a Californian to some pissed off mole They stopped replacing the sign to Good Luck Road Cause everyone kept taking it home You can't raise the wages we'll never get em back down And I knew you weren’t from here when you picked your dog shit from the ground And I don't like picking apples I don't like harvesting peas And I don’t think there’s enough jobs for the refugees There’s a couple on a gravestone but only one of them is dead And they got a deal from the funeral home said, “what the heck” And I just wanted a town that at 5pm Would have a blinking yellow light and nothing open They stopped replacing the sign to Good Luck Road Cause everyone kept taking it home There’s leaves in the gutter Milk in the fridge Everyone’s from somewhere That’s just how it is And where does it all come from, the mirror before school I always thought my left side was a little more cute I guess it worked out I won the high school award I'll be your trophy husband if you be my girl And all these dilly dallies call them matters of the heart Are always keeping tally keeping you from the start Of anything you might really care to mean Cause you're a Californian and it's time you came clean They stopped replacing the sign to Good Luck Road Cause everyone kept taking it home There’s milk in the gutter Leaves in the fridge Everyone’s from somewhere That’s just how it is

about

A box of songs
Look inside
You’ll find a story
Scratched off by a penny

Inside lives a small town
A parent a child
Two wheels four wheels
Life begun life lost
A fishing pole
An unmade bed

Store this box someplace cool and dark
Perhaps next to your grandmother’s tomato jars
May it gather dust by and by
But keep a penny handy
For the hard times

Special thanks to the people of Dayton, Wyoming for opening your hearts, homes, and stories.

about

Jenner Fox Sisters, Oregon

There is something that happens inside a good song. A tootsie roll can take you back to your elementary school playground; the voice of a toothless refrigerator man reminds you to say “I love you.” Jenner Fox tells the stories of people and places with unparalleled compassion and respect. His artful tone, poetry, and fluency on his guitar do something only the brave ones do: let us in. ... more
